The South Sudan Embassy in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has described as “misinterpretation” of the recent clashes reported in the Upper Nile and Jonglei states.
The embassy was responding to un-signed and un-dated document, circulating in the social media, purported to have been issued by H.E. the President of the sisterly Republic of Kenya, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, regarding what it referred to as an escalation of hostilities between the parties, signatory to the Revitalized Peace Agreement for the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
The document further emphasized on increasing insecurity, violence, displacement and unfolding humanitarian crisis in the States of Upper Nile and Jonglei of the Republic of South Sudan, which it described as detrimental to peace and stability for South Sudan and the East Africa region as a whole.
The overall situation in South Sudan, according to the said document, circulating in the social media is dire, which calls for the international community for immediate intervention with other relevant assistance to the Government of South Sudan to enable it addresses the situation.
Reacting to the statement, South Sudan’s mission in Ethiopia said the parties to the revitalized agreement have been are working collegially to implement the peace deal.
